1tabbefWhat do you do when a ghost comes knocking at your door?

“I’m not a ghost!” little Tabitha insisted. “I’m Snow White!”

Smith & Jones getting jiggy with it.

Well, I didn’t want to shatter her illusions. I mean, she may have been sold as a Snow White, but she wasn’t one of the “official” Snow Whites. Clearly, this little 13″ composition girl with the frightful black wig and the pale, pale face was a knock-off. But! Long ago she made some little girl happy, and that is the important thing.

Note the clock gears on her hat.

Thus begins my description of O.L.D. No. 00026, Tabitha. You can see her adoption page HERE.

Being a Snow White doll of any brand is all fun and games until 80 years go by and your face has faded even more, while your hair stays as black as ever! What to do with her? Who would want her? If I put her in pink clothing, would that coax any color at all to her face? Probably not. In fact, it would probably make her look paler than ever.

Zipper embroidery! Who would have thunk it?!

I have long been a fan of Steampunk (an art form that adds an antiquated Victorian aesthetic to modern technology) even putting it into my book with the characters of Smith & Jones. I looked at Tabitha’s unique coloring and thought, “Here’s my chance!”

Her stylized Umbrella/Flower is an old Jello mold, leather cut out petals and the face of the smashed clock.

I took one of my son’s many, many clocks that he collected and I smashed it with a hammer! Using the parts for Tabitha’s new style.

On Pinterest I got the idea of using old zippers as an embroidery style trim. Wouldn’t you know, I had a whole bunch of really nice old metal zippers that I didn’t know what to do with! They were far too large for my dolls. Once again illustrating: This is why you never throw anything away!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERATabitha will not be everybody’s cup of tea. But she’ll be somebody’s cup of tea, and every salvageable doll deserves a second chance. Someone who will love her for the odd girl she is!

Meanwhile! New year, new adopter! Just kidding. O.L.D. No. 25, Madeliene, is going to our dear Michelle E. in Colorado. Thank you, Michelle!

And with that, Happy Wednesday! You’re my favorite.

Midnight, Cowboys!

MNcbjailTonight, at midnight! Smith & Jones return to ride again – actually, it’s more like teeter. Plus, they’re in TROUBLE – in Chapter 21 A Place For Everything.

In the meantime, if you take a peek at the upper right hand corner of this very page, you’ll see a new tab! The “O.L.D. Registry.”

Things are moving forward at a rapid pace and the first of the Once Loved Dolls are “getting ready for their close up.”

So much to do! They need a lot of love! It’s hard not to get wrapped up in each and every one. But we must forge ahead! Because they all deserve a chance…

‘Til tomorrow!
